Queen's IRC Senior Fellow Dr. David Weiss Garners International Accolades

Queen's University salutes IRC Senior Research Fellow Dr. David Weiss, honoured in two countries for his work in human resources management. David was given the “HR Distinction Award” by the HR Israel Association, which recognized his “outstanding contribution to Israel's pursuit of Human Resources excellence through his ongoing work in the advancement of innovative research and professional HR and leadership practices for Israeli companies and for HR managers. It also recognizes with gratitude Dr. Weiss’ ongoing commitment to sharing his insights and knowledge at many Israeli professional seminars, including keynote presentations at the annual HR Management conferences. David also was their closing conference keynote speaker on the topic of "Strategic HR and Leadership." Dr. Weiss also was awarded the prestigious "HR Leadership Award" at the Asia-Pacific Human Resources Management conference in Mumbai, India. The “HR Leadership Award” is the most prestigious Award which an individual can receive for his or her contribution. The recipients of this award are chosen by a Global research group that consists of professionals from different parts of the world. These professionals are then asked to submit their recommendations. This research group is chaired by a Chairman who reviews recommendations and the entire research group identifies Award Winners. David also will be a speaker at the Asia Pacific HR Management conference on the topic of "The HR Value Proposition." David teaches on the IRC's Organizational Design program and is President and CEO of Weiss International Ltd. Weiss awarded the prestigious

Dr. David Weiss honoured with the "HR Leadership Award" by the Asia-Pacific HR Management Congress for his "Iconic Work in HR Management." The award was given to him at the Asia-Pacific Human Resources Management conference held on February 12-14, 2008 in Mumbai, India. David also was a keynote speaker at the conference on the topic of "The HR Value Proposition."

Weiss article on learning design appears in the new Pfeiffer book

Dr. David Weiss has four new articles appearing in the book "The Pfeiffer Portable Mentor of Training and Management." One of the articles, "Taxonomy Learning Design" is a featured article in the book. This article by Weiss focuses on leading edge adult learning training designs and how designers should approach this process for successful outcomes. Specifically, the article introduces the "taxonomy" approach to learning design. A taxonomy learning design is an innovative approach that balances the need for learning repetition (which is very important when introducing a mindset shift and behavioral changes) with the engaging process of using multiple approaches to learning. The taxonomy learning design process involves a careful review of the core objectives and outcomes that need to be the focus of the learning experience. The core learning objectives are then balanced with multiple learning strategies. The outcome of a taxonomy design is a learning program that the participants experience as deepening, varied, and compelling. It also maximizes the participants' ability to apply a focused set of skills and knowledge after the learning experience to the business realities.

Weiss gives CSTD plenary keynote

Dr. David Weiss gave the Canadian Society for Training and Development (CSTD) conference opening plenary speaker on December 3, 2008. The topic of his presentation was on his co-authored book "Leadership Solutions" (Jossey-Bass, 2007).

Weiss' co-authored book,

"Leadership Solutions: The Pathway To Bridge The Leadership Gap," co-authored by Dr. David Weiss, was published by Jossey-Bass in September 2007. The book is a sequel to the best selling book "The Leadership Gap" and focuses on how to measure leadership capacity in organizations. Leadership Solutions was reviewed at length in the Business Books Review and the review is available to download from the books/articles section of this website. Weiss Gives Keynote on Employment Branding in Toronto on September 6, 2007

On September 6, 2007, Dr. David Weiss, President and CEO of Weiss International Ltd will be speaking at the RNG Recruitment Conference on the topic of "Employment Branding: Strategy or Fad." The presentation describes how many executive leaders have expressed concern with the apparent leadership talent gap that exists currently in their organizations and the anticipated gap they forecast for the future. One HR response has been to focus on building an employment brand that would contribute to attracting new talent and retaining existing key talent in their organizations. Dr. David Weiss will set the stage for a dialogue that will explore the participant attempts at building employment brands and the extent to which it achieved its anticipated benefits. In presentation will provide insight on the following issues:

  • How real and how serious is the threat of a leadership talent gap in Canada?
  • How effective is employment branding as a response to that threat?
  • What are some of the critical success factors in building an employment brand?

Weiss and Birnfeld speak on "A Call To Action: Closing The Leadership Gap" in Tel Aviv

 

On July 11, 2007, Dr. David Weiss, President and CEO of Weiss International Ltd and Ilan Birnfeld, Managing Director of Deloitte Israel co-presented on the topic of "A Call To Action: Closing The Leadership Gap" for the executive alumni of the Technion Institute of Management in Tel Aviv. The session description is as follows:

Many executive leaders have expressed great concern with the apparent leadership talent gaps that exist in their organizations. They also are concerned that current leadership approaches focus almost entirely on developing personal attributes at the expense of other important business and strategic facets of leadership. How real and how serious is the threat of a leadership talent gap? How can we build leadership capacity throughout our organizations? How will we know when we have bridged the leadership gap? Where do we start? Dr. David Weiss will share his best practice research that appeared in two of his books, "The Leadership Gap" (Wiley, 2005) and "Leadership Solutions" (Jossey-Bass, 2007). Major executives are using this approach as their platform to address the leadership talent gap and for leadership and executive development. Mr. Ilan Birnfeld, the managing partner of Deloitte Israel, will share his insights into what it takes to be a global leader.

This dynamic session will focus on the following:
